Boston University, Western Michigan Advance to Frozen Four

TOLEDO, Ohio – Boston University and Western Michigan have earned their spots in the 2025 Frozen Four, continuing their pursuit of national glory as the NCAA hockey tournament progresses toward its final stages. Boston University, competing in their third consecutive Frozen Four under coach Jay Pandolfo, secured their place by defeating Cornell 3-2 in overtime. Meanwhile, Western Michigan made history by advancing to their first Frozen Four following a hard-fought 2-1 victory over UMass.

The Terriers faced Cornell at the Huntington Center on Saturday, where Quinn Hutson scored the decisive goal in overtime, 6:25 into the extra period. Boston University will next play the winner of the Allentown regional final between UConn and Penn State on April 10 at 5 p.m. ET in St. Louis.

During the regional final, Boston University took a crucial 2-1 lead at the 34-second mark of the third period after freshman Cole Hutson fired a precise shot from the blue line. However, Cornell countered, equalizing the score with just over five minutes left in regulation to force overtime. Terriers’ goaltender Mikhail Yegorov made 37 saves throughout the contest, showcasing a standout performance that contributed to his team’s triumph.

In the Fargo Regional final, Western Michigan advanced by outlasting UMass. The Broncos showcased resilience following a scare in the semifinals against Minnesota Duluth, winning their championship game decisively. With this historic Frozen Four appearance, Western Michigan aims to capitalize on a season that has seen the program tie its record for wins at 32.

The remaining two Frozen Four spots will be determined today as Boston College, the top seed in the tournament, faces off against defending champions Denver in Manchester, New Hampshire. At the same time, newcomers UConn will face Penn State in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Boston College carries the momentum of being a perennial contender, while Denver hopes to defend their title. Both UConn and Penn State are vying for their first-ever Frozen Four appearances, which adds an exciting layer to the competition.

The Frozen Four is set to take place at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis on April 10 and April 12, with all games airing on ESPN networks. This year marks the first time St. Louis has hosted the event since 2007.

With the stakes high and emotions running strong, the excitement around college hockey’s premier event is palpable as teams compete for their shot at the national championship.
