Bournemouth, England — AFC Bournemouth’s striker Evanilson has had his red card rescinded following a successful appeal, the Football Association announced on Tuesday. The decision comes after the Brazilian was sent off during a 1-1 Premier League draw with Manchester United on April 27.

Evanilson received a yellow card from referee Peter Bankes for a challenge on United defender Noussair Mazraoui in the 70th minute. However, after a review by the video assistant referee (VAR), the yellow card was upgraded to a red for serious foul play, which would have led to a three-match ban.

The Football Association stated, “An independent regulatory commission has removed Evanilson’s three-match ban following a successful claim of wrongful dismissal.” This means Evanilson is available to play in Saturday’s match against Arsenal.

Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola expressed relief regarding the appeal’s outcome. “Everyone who has played football understands. He slips. He doesn’t catch him with the leg that goes high. The repercussions for us are huge,” stated Iraola after the match. He affirmed the need for an appeal, adding, “It is common sense.”

Bournemouth currently sits in 10th position in the Premier League standings, needing an eighth-place finish to qualify for next season’s Europa Conference League, depending on results in the FA Cup.
