The latest installment of Paramount‘s ‘Smile‘ franchise is demonstrating impressive staying power at the box office. The sequel, referred to as ‘Smile 2’, is projected to earn $22 million during its opening weekend, following an $8.8 million performance on Friday, which included preview showings. The film is currently being shown in 3,610 theaters nationwide. Although an official Rotten Tomatoes audience score has not been released yet, expectations remain high.

Entering the top five is A24‘s romantic drama ‘We Live in Time‘, which features actors Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield. It is expected to generate approximately $1.75 million on its opening day, with a weekend total of $4.3 million, reaching a cumulative total of $4.6 million by the end of Sunday. The film is playing in 955 theaters and holds a critic’s score of 79% on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating favorable reviews.

Meanwhile, DreamWorks Animation‘s ‘The Wild Robot‘, distributed by Universal, maintains its second place position in its fourth weekend. It has earned $2.65 million on Friday and is predicted to reach a $10 million total for the weekend, showing a decline of 29% compared to the previous week, and bringing its cumulative gross to $101.6 million. A rival studio executive comments on its success, citing, “It’s emotional and audiences connect with it, and know the book very well.”

Cineverse‘s horror film ‘Terrifier 3‘, which saw its second Friday bring in $2.5 million, is anticipated to earn between $7.5 million to $8 million over the weekend. The film’s 10-day cumulative earnings are estimated to be $34.9 million, marking a 58% decline.

Warner Bros.’ long-running hit ‘Beetlejuice‘ continues to perform well, earning $1.4 million on its seventh Friday and projected to make $5.1 million over the weekend, with total earnings reaching $284 million. This film can now also be rented or purchased digitally.

‘Smile 2’, directed by Parker Finn and costing $28 million to produce, stars Naomi Scott and brings audiences a thriller narrative combined with supernatural elements. This sequel follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, which had a $22.6 million opening weekend and eventually amassed $105.9 million in total earnings. Early preview revenues for ‘Smile 2’ already matched those of Blumhouse/Universal‘s ‘The First Purge‘, which had a successful initial run.

Additionally, Cineverse’s ‘Terrifier 3’ marked a notable $1.5 million from Thursday previews, with first-week earnings totaling $26.9 million. A24’s ‘We Live in Time’, expanding its theatrical presence, earned $500,000 during Thursday previews, resulting in promising prospects for its wider release.

The Michael Keaton and Mila Kunis dramedy from Ketchup Entertainment also saw promising audience feedback, with strong projections for its ongoing performance, according to early viewer responses.
