Boxer Georgia O’Connor Passes Away at 25 After Cancer Battle

Durham, England – Professional boxer Georgia O’Connor has died at the age of 25 after a battle with a rare and aggressive form of cancer. O’Connor, a talented athlete who won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2017, revealed her diagnosis earlier this year.
In January, O’Connor shared that she was suffering from colitis and primary sclerosing cholangitis, conditions that can increase the risk of cancer. She made her professional boxing debut in 2021 and held an undefeated record of 3-0 before her health problems began.
“We are heartbroken by the passing of Georgia O’Connor,” said Boxxer, her promoting company. “A true warrior inside and outside the ring, the boxing community has lost a talented, courageous and determined young woman far too soon.”
O’Connor got married just two weeks prior to her passing on May 9, 2025, to Adriano Cardinali, who left his job to support her during her treatment. “Georgia was loved, respected, and admired by her friends here at Boxxer,” the organization added. “Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this difficult time.”
Tributes have poured in from various figures in the boxing community, including fighters like Jack Catterall, Molly McCann, and Chantelle Cameron. England Boxing honored her, saying, “A gifted boxer and beloved member of the amateur boxing community, she won medals at the Commonwealth Youth Games, Youth Worlds, and European Championships.”
O’Connor last competed in October 2022 during an all-female boxing event at London’s O2 Arena. Her passing has prompted a wave of condolences, with many highlighting her achievements and impact in the sport.
Ben Shalom, the founder and CEO of Boxxer, expressed his condolences saying, “It’s hard to make sense of this… a lot goes on in life but nothing else matters other than your family and your health.”
