ATLANTA, Ga. — The Atlanta Braves will host the Colorado Rockies this weekend, seeking three crucial wins at Truist Park. The series opener is set to start Friday night at 7:15 p.m. ET, with Bryce Elder taking the mound for Atlanta.

Elder comes off a stellar performance against the San Francisco Giants, where he struck out 12 batters in eight innings, though a game-winning home run surrendered by teammate Pierce Johnson in the ninth ruined his chance for a win.

Despite being shuffled between the majors and Triple-A Gwinnett this season, Elder maintains a 4.08 earned run average (ERA) across 10 starts. His recent form shows improvement, having allowed only one home run over his last three outings, totaling 19 1/3 innings. He will aim to keep this trend alive against the struggling Rockies.

On the other side, veteran German Marquez is set to start for Colorado. Marquez, with a disappointing record of 2-8 and a 7.00 ERA this season, has not had success against the Braves, who scored seven runs off him during their last encounter.

This series is essential for the Braves as they strive to turn around a season marked by inconsistency, currently holding a record of 29-38. With only a few games played since the start of June, the Braves hope to gain momentum going into the weekend.

The matchup represents a critical moment for the team; a sweep of the Rockies, who are at the bottom of the standings with a 13-56 record, is not just desired but necessary to reignite their playoff hopes.
