Atlanta, GA — Atlanta Braves General Manager Alex Anthopoulos made it clear Wednesday that the team will not be trading any players ahead of the trade deadline. During an interview on 680 The Fan, Anthopoulos responded emphatically to speculation regarding pitcher Chris Sale, categorically stating, “No, Zero.”

He continued, “I’ve seen the speculation, and that’s why it’s completely ridiculous to me. We’re not selling, especially someone who has club control beyond the current year. Will not happen.” Anthopoulos’s remarks show his commitment to maintaining the team’s core, asserting that he values his word. “I never make definitive statements unless I’m gonna stick to them. Once you make definitive statements and you go back on them, you’re a liar and you’re done. So, will not happen. Bold. Italicize it. Caps.”

Anthopoulos emphasized that the Braves are focused on winning. “We’re built to win. Our expectations are to win, and our expectations are to go for it the entire time,” he said. He expressed a desire to be in a buying position as the trade deadline approaches, hinting at potential moves but not disclosing specifics.

Despite the Braves’ struggles, Anthopoulos acknowledged the need for internal improvement. “Right now, a lot of it is going to take a lot of internal improvement. We have a lot of players playing below their career norms,” he commented.

Despite the challenges, he remains hopeful about a potential turnaround, citing the unity and focus within the clubhouse. With the Braves six and a half games back from a playoff spot as of Wednesday afternoon, the upcoming weeks will be pivotal for their postseason hopes, especially after their recent victory against the Mets.
