Bryce Elder Atlanta Braves Pitcher

Atlanta, GA – The Atlanta Braves have officially recalled Bryce Elder to the Major League roster and optioned left-handed pitcher Dylan Dodd to Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding move.

Elder is expected to start Sunday’s game against the Boston Red Sox. This roster change is more of a formality, as he will take AJ Smith-Shawver’s spot in the rotation, providing rest for the rest of the pitching staff.

After an impressive All-Star campaign in 2023, Elder faced challenges during the 2024 season, finishing with a 6.52 ERA in 10 starts. He struggled further at the start of the current season, holding a 7.20 ERA over his first three games.

A few weeks ago, he was sent back to Triple-A to make room for pitcher Spencer Strider. The Braves opted to keep a five-man rotation, making Elder the odd man out in favor of Grant Holmes.

With Smith-Shawver’s expected season-ending injury due to a torn ACL, Elder is likely to remain in the rotation for the foreseeable future. However, the Braves could alter their lineup as needed.

Dylan Dodd’s latest call-up to the team has concluded. He was initially called up for the doubleheader and remained with the team for additional days. In his two appearances, Dodd allowed one hit and recorded a strikeout without any walks. This call-up was more active than his mid-May stint, where he did not see any game action.
