ATLANTA, Ga. — The Atlanta Braves are searching for a replacement for outfielder Jurickson Profar following his 80-game suspension due to a failed drug test. Profar’s suspension not only sidelines him for a significant portion of the season but also renders him ineligible for the postseason if the Braves qualify.

In the wake of this setback, FanSided’s Jacob Mountz has suggested that the Braves could target injured Miami Marlins outfielder Jesús Sánchez as a potential replacement. Mountz noted that while Sánchez showcases impressive power, with a 2024 batting line of .252/.313/.417/.731 and 18 home runs over 489 at-bats, there are challenges to his overall effectiveness due to a high strikeout rate.

“Sánchez frequently makes hard contact and produces stellar exit velocities,” Mountz wrote. “If the Braves could shore up this issue, they might turn what is a decent hitter into a feared slugger.”

Besides his offensive capabilities, Sánchez also brings speed to the table, having stolen 16 bases in 18 attempts last season. Given the Marlins’ struggles in the National League, it is likely that several key players, including Sánchez, could be traded before the deadline.

“Of all the options available, Sánchez is likely going to be one of the more overlooked players on the market,” Mountz added. “The Marlins have him under team control for a few more years, and he’s currently injured.”

However, the Braves stand to gain significantly if they can secure Sánchez once he returns from injury. Mountz emphasized Sánchez’s potential for a breakout season, suggesting he could evolve into a player capable of delivering 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in a season.

As the Braves navigate this challenging period, the decision to pursue a suitable replacement for Profar will play a critical role in their postseason aspirations.
