Atlanta Braves Tampa Bay Rays Baseball Game

TAMPA, Fla. — The Atlanta Braves are gearing up to play the Tampa Bay Rays this weekend at George M. Steinbrenner Field, a venue typically reserved for spring training games due to hurricane damage at Tropicana Field. This matchup marks the first time in 2025 that the Braves will compete in this unusual setting, which has become a temporary home for the Rays.

The Braves, currently struggling with a 3-9 record, are looking to build on their momentum following a dramatic 4-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday night. The game, which extended into 11 innings due to a rain delay, was crucial for Atlanta as they aim to turn their season around.

“It was a hard-fought win, and we needed that,” said Braves manager Brian Snitker. “Hopefully, we can carry this momentum into the series against the Rays.”

This weekend’s series is particularly unique for the Braves, who last played at Steinbrenner Field during spring training. With the first three games of the season being hosted in a park not traditionally used for MLB games, this scenario could lead to unpredictable outcomes. The Rays are currently 5-7 and fourth in the American League East, trying to regain their footing after struggling to find consistency.

“We know it’s going to be a challenge,” stated Rays pitcher Drew Rasmussen. “But we’re excited to play in front of our fans, even if it’s at a different venue.”

Broadcast options for fans include coverage through FanDuel Sports South and FanDuel Sports Southeast, while games can also be streamed via MLB.tv. Additionally, the Braves Radio Network will broadcast the games.

In advance of the series, the Braves announced the recall of right-handed pitcher Bryce Elder, who will start the series opener. Elder’s return comes after a rocky debut against the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he allowed two home runs in four innings.

“Bryce is looking to bounce back,” Snitker said. “We’re hopeful he can find his rhythm again.”

The Braves will also face Rays starter Taj Bradley, known for his hard splitter, in the first game. Bradley, however, has been inconsistent early this season, with mixed results in his first two starts.

“We’ll need to capitalize on any mistakes he makes,” commented Braves slugger Ronald Acuña Jr., who is expected to play after a recent injury scare.

As both teams prepare for this unusual series, the Braves will be looking to validate their talents and erase the doubts that have crept in during the season’s early weeks.

“We’re excited to play, and we’re ready to prove ourselves,” said Acuña Jr.
