Brazilian Fighter Silva Prepares for Career-Defining Match in Montreal

Montreal, Canada – Brazilian mixed martial artist Bruno Silva is set to face Mike Barriault this Saturday, May 10, in a pivotal match that could define his future in the UFC. Silva, known as “Blindado,” has struggled recently, losing six out of his last seven fights. This matchup represents a last chance for Silva to redeem himself after being informed of his release from the UFC following his poor performance last October.
After experiencing significant turbulence in his career, Silva reflected on a conversation with his past opponent, Alex Pereira. The two fighters became friends following a tense bout in 2022, when Pereira ended Silva’s seven-fight knockout streak. Silva sought guidance from Pereira after his latest loss, which prompted him to reach out directly to UFC matchmaker Mick Maynard.
“I feared it was the end of my career,” Silva told MMA Fighting. “I called him to chat and told him what was going on. He encouraged me to speak to Mick and explain my situation, noting that I was fighting below my capabilities.”
Initially, Silva’s attempts to connect with Maynard were met with disappointment. Silva shared that Maynard’s response communicated that, despite acknowledging his struggles, there were no available solutions considering his losing streak. “It’s four losses in a row. Unfortunately, there’s nothing I can do,” Maynard told him.
Determined to improve, Silva continued, “I went back to my bedroom and started praying. God, please give me another chance. Don’t let it end like that.” Realizing he needed to take action for himself, Silva crafted a sincere message to Maynard, detailing his commitment to self-improvement and asking for one more fight.
“Mick, I’ve never said ‘no’ to any fight, and I fought everybody you offered,” Silva wrote. Shortly after, he received a reply: “Bruno, I’ll give you one more fight. If you lose, there’s really nothing I can do. It’s in your hands now.”
Silva embraced this opportunity for redemption. With the support of his family and mental health professionals, he embarked on a journey to address his struggles. “I dove head first into my health because I needed it,” he stated. This included sessions with a psychologist and psychiatrist, along with lifestyle changes to ensure a healthy mindset.
As Silva prepares for UFC 315, his coach and family have provided crucial emotional support. “When the fight was booked, I want to go there and break him. I don’t want a nice technical game,” Silva expressed, highlighting his intention to fight passionately.
Looking ahead, Silva aims for victory not only for himself but as a message of hope to those dealing with personal challenges. “I see this fight as my rebirth not only as an athlete, but as a person. Everything has a cure, everything has an answer, and you can bounce back if you believe in God,” he concluded.
