Breanna Stewart Re-signs with Liberty for Championship Repeat

NEW YORK (March 29, 2025) – The New York Liberty have re-signed forward Breanna Stewart on a one-year deal, solidifying the team’s core ahead of their title defense. Stewart, a three-time WNBA champion and two-time league MVP, played a pivotal role in leading the Liberty to their first championship last season.
Liberty general manager Jonathan Kolb expressed excitement over Stewart’s return. “Bringing Stewie back to the Liberty was our top priority this offseason,” Kolb said. “Her impact on and off the court is immeasurable. She’s a leader whose relentless drive is foundational to the standard we continue to build upon in New York.”
In her first two seasons with the Liberty, Stewart has averaged 21.8 points and 8.9 rebounds per game, alongside 3.7 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.4 blocks over 78 regular season games. Her presence on the court is seen as invaluable as the team aims to repeat their championship run.
Stewart, 30, was originally drafted first overall by the Seattle Storm in 2016 and spent her first seven seasons there before joining the Liberty in 2023. She opted to come to New York to be closer to her roots in Syracuse, New York. This offseason, Stewart underwent arthroscopic surgery on her right meniscus but is expected to be fully recovered by the start of training camp on April 27.
While recovering, she participated in the inaugural season of Unrivaled, a winter 3-on-3 league she co-founded. During her time in the league, she averaged 19.1 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.
The Liberty will kick off their 2025 season on May 17 at home against the Las Vegas Aces at Barclays Center. Fans can purchase season memberships and single-game tickets through Ticketmaster. This season’s lineup will not only feature Stewart but also newly acquired guard Natasha Cloud and returning players such as Marine Johannes.
Stewart’s re-signing follows a successful season where the Liberty defeated the Aces to secure their championship title, making them a favorite for many as they look to replicate their success in the upcoming season.
