Alex Bregman Red Sox Injury Update

BOSTON (AP) — Boston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman could soon be placed on the injured list after experiencing tightness in his right quadriceps, according to manager Alex Cora. Bregman left Friday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles due to the injury, and Cora provided an update on Saturday morning.

“He’s getting an MRI. He’s sore,” Cora said at Fenway Park before the first game of a split doubleheader. Bregman reportedly indicated that the pain felt “worse” than he had expected.

When asked if Bregman might be heading to the injured list, Cora responded cautiously, saying, “I don’t want to jump to conclusions, but yes.”

The Red Sox are facing a roster challenge, with another corner infielder, Triston Casas, already out for the season following surgery for a ruptured tendon in his left knee. Cora indicated that if Bregman does need to go on the IL, the team plans to “mix and match” players to fill the position.

Despite questions about Rafael Devers moving back to third base, Cora said, “There are a lot of guys in the conversation,” and confirmed that Devers would not be put in that position immediately. He added, “We made a decision in the offseason, and this is where we’re going.”

He praised Devers, who has been performing well as a designated hitter, stating, “He’s the best DH in the American League right now… This is where we’re going. We’ll continue to talk. I’m not going to say we’re going to close the door.”

The Red Sox aim to find ways to score runs even without Bregman. Cora concluded, “Obviously, he’s a big part of our offense. We’ve just got to find a way to score runs in a different way.”
