Brenda Vaccaro Reflects on Michael Douglas Relationship with Fondness

New York, NY — Actress Brenda Vaccaro, known for her role in the film “Nonnas,” expressed her enduring admiration for her ex-boyfriend, Michael Douglas, during a recent interview with Page Six. The two dated for seven years in the 1970s after co-starring in the 1971 movie “Summertree.” Vaccaro, now 85, described their time together as “wonderful” and fondly recalled the excitement of their youth.
“We were young, we were beautiful, oh my God, we were such a gorgeous couple. Breathtaking,” Vaccaro said, reflecting on their relationship. The couple moved to California together, which marked a significant turning point in their careers.
“To come to California together to experience all that stuff… He got his first show, ‘The Streets of San Francisco.’ We were so excited. It was like, ‘Wow, you know, we left New York and came to California and everything that was supposed to happen happened,'” she added.
Although Vaccaro and Douglas eventually parted ways in 1977, she maintains there’s no animosity between them. “I do still adore him, I think he’s wonderful,” she stated. Douglas, now 80, later married Diandra Luker, with whom he shares a son, Cameron, before marrying Catherine Zeta-Jones in 2000.
Following her relationship with Douglas, Vaccaro married three more times and has been with real estate agent Guy Hector since 1986. She is currently starring in “Nonnas,” a film about a man who opens an Italian restaurant with grandmothers, or nonnas, cooking in the kitchen. Despite her family’s background in the restaurant business, Vaccaro humorously confessed, “I don’t cook; I can cook, but I prefer to be served!”
She credits her positive outlook on life to her mother’s advice: “Stay happy and stay perky,” adding that she’s “just happy to be alive” and grateful for the joys of friendship and good food.
