Brent Key Leads Georgia Tech to Stunning 17-0 Halftime Lead Over Georgia
In a surprising turn of events, Georgia Tech, under the leadership of Head Coach Brent Key, has taken a commanding 17-0 lead over the Georgia Bulldogs at halftime in their annual rivalry game. This performance has been hailed by analysts, with ESPN‘s Booger McFarland stating that “Brent Key and his staff are coaching circles around Kirby Smart and his staff.”
The Yellow Jackets dominated the first half, outgaining Georgia 307 yards to 137 yards and maintaining a significant time of possession advantage, 19 minutes and 48 seconds to UGA‘s 10 minutes and 12 seconds. Georgia Tech’s quarterback, Haynes King, played a crucial role, completing 12 of 16 passes for 150 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 57 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries.
The Bulldogs, who had a 30-game home win streak and a College Football Playoff berth on the line, struggled significantly. Their offense was hindered by dropped passes, including a critical drop by Arian Smith, marking the 33rd drop of the season for UGA receivers, the most in college football.
Georgia Tech’s strategy, which included a strong run game and effective passing, allowed them to capitalize on Georgia’s mistakes. The Yellow Jackets scored on two key drives, including a 2-yard touchdown run by Haynes King and a 4-yard touchdown catch from King to Jamal Haynes.
