Brewers Acquire Quinn Priester Amid Trade Speculation

Milwaukee Brewers Game Action With Quinn Priester

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The Milwaukee Brewers are not hesitating to shake up their roster as trade speculation builds around the team.

On Monday, the Brewers executed two trades, and experts suggest this is just the beginning as the trade deadline looms this summer. The team’s performance over the next few months will play a crucial role in determining their approach—either bolstering their roster or offloading players.

While many are speculating on potential moves, Heavy.com’s Jon Conahan recently suggested a blockbuster scenario involving Brewers pitcher Freddy Peralta heading to the New York Yankees for top prospect Spencer Jones. “If the New York Yankees want to make a blockbuster trade for a starter before the deadline, multiple options could be available,” Conahan stated, identifying Peralta as a top candidate for trade.

The Yankees have a few promising prospects but may face challenges in assembling a package substantial enough to acquire a player of Peralta’s caliber. “This is obviously hypothetical, but if the Brewers could flip Peralta for a slugger like Jones, that could make some sense,” he noted.

In the meantime, the Brewers have directly addressed their starting rotation needs by acquiring Quinn Priester from the Boston Red Sox. The 24-year-old pitcher, a former first-round pick from the 2019 MLB Draft, is poised to make an impact soon.

According to Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Priester is expected to make his Brewers debut on Thursday against the Colorado Rockies. “Nestor Cortes has had a PRP injection in his left elbow,” Rosiak reported, adding that Priester is a “good bet” to start in Cortes’ place.

Despite a challenging start to his major league career, where he logged a 7.74 ERA in 10 games during 2023 and improved slightly with a 4.71 ERA in 11 games in 2024, Priester remains a coveted prospect.

“He’s young and a former top-tier prospect. The Brewers desperately need pitching, and now Priester is a guy that if they can unlock, could help beyond just the 2025 campaign,” stated Rosiak. “He’s cost-controlled and should fill a desperate need quickly.”

The Brewers’ moves this past week not only signal their intent to improve but also reflect a strategic shift as they navigate the complexities of roster management amidst injuries. As the trade deadline approaches, all eyes will be on Milwaukee’s next steps.
