Brewers Pitching Struggles as Uribe’s Performance Declines in NLCS
Milwaukee, WI — The Milwaukee Brewers are facing challenges in the NL Championship Series (NLCS) as pitcher Uribe‘s performance wanes amidst postseason pressure.
This October has proved taxing for Uribe, who pitched extensively during the regular season. With 69 appearances spanning at least three outs, he is now showing signs of fatigue. In the postseason, Uribe has faced 21 batters, allowing only three hits but also four walks and just four strikeouts.
His declining velocity, a concern that began in September, is affecting his ability to effectively navigate through high-stakes games. Despite a strong effort in Game 5 of the National League Division Series (NLDS), where he pitched two innings, Uribe has struggled in the NLCS against the Dodgers.
Manager Murphy‘s usage of Uribe has drawn scrutiny from fans. However, Murphy attempted to manage Uribe’s workload during the second half of the season. He used Uribe on zero days’ rest only seven times after the All-Star break, a significant reduction from the first half when Uribe made 40 appearances by the end of June.
As the Brewers secured their division title, Murphy sought to limit Uribe’s exposure. Unfortunately, injuries to other pitchers strained the bullpen’s depth, leaving Uribe overworked.
The Brewers might have benefited from acquiring additional relief pitching during the trade deadline. Miller, their recent acquisition, has been useful, but additional fresh arms could have helped ease the burden on Uribe.
Currently, the Brewers need a breakthrough performance from an unlikely hero on the mound as they aim to compete against the Dodgers, who have showcased strong pitching. With the series still in progress, the Brewers hope to rejuvenate their offense during their rest period in Los Angeles.
