Milwaukee Brewers Game Pitch Chad Patrick

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin – Rookie pitcher Chad Patrick shined in his Major League debut, leading the Milwaukee Brewers to a 5-0 victory against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night at American Family Field.

The win marked a significant turnaround for the Brewers, who had previously lost four consecutive games, and prevented them from starting the season 0-5 for the first time since 1984. Patrick, who posted an impressive 14-1 record last season at Triple-A Nashville, delivered 4 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing three walks and striking out five batters during an 86-pitch performance.

“It felt great to be out there tonight, especially getting the win,” said Patrick. “I just tried to focus on each pitch and trust my teammates behind me.”

Relief pitchers Jared Koenig, Abner Uribe, Joel Payamps, and Trevor Megill combined to maintain the shutout, with Uribe earning the victory for his scoreless 1 1/3 innings of work.

The Brewers took an early lead in the third inning. Eric Haase hit a solo home run to left field, sending the ball 419 feet and putting Milwaukee ahead 1-0. Following Haase’s homer, Brice Turang and Jackson Chourio hit consecutive singles, setting the stage for Christian Yelich to bring home an additional run with a fielder’s choice.

In the sixth inning, the Brewers extended their lead to 4-0. Yelich and William Contreras started the rally with walks. Rhy Hoskins then drove in Yelich with a single, while Contreras scored on a fielder’s choice with a throwing error by the Kansas City defense.

Yelich capped off the scoring for the night in the eighth inning, hitting his first home run of the season—a 429-foot blast to right-center field.

On the other side, Royals starter Michael Lorenzen struggled, giving up four runs, three of which were earned, and five hits over 5 1/3 innings. Kansas City’s best scoring opportunity came in the fifth inning when Kyle Isbel‘s deep drive nearly cleared the foul pole, although he ended the at-bat with a strikeout.

“We didn’t get the timely hits we needed tonight,” Royals manager said. “We’ll regroup and come back stronger tomorrow.”

The Brewers aim to build on this momentum as they face off against the Royals again on Wednesday. The team is hopeful that Patrick’s performance is just the beginning of a promising season.
