FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Bri Ellis, a senior first baseman for the Arkansas Razorbacks, was named the 2025 Softball America Player of the Year on Tuesday. This makes her the first player in the program’s history to receive such a prestigious national award from a major softball publication.

Ellis has had an exceptional season, finishing with a batting average of .457, along with 26 home runs and 72 RBIs—setting single-season records for the Razorbacks. Her statistics also include a 1.142 slugging percentage, a .646 on-base percentage, and a remarkable OPS of 1.788. With 64 walks and 64 runs scored, Ellis has proven to be a formidable presence on the field.

“It’s an incredible honor to be recognized on this stage,” Ellis said. She expressed gratitude towards her coaches, teammates, and the Arkansas community. “They have supported me every step of the way.”

Ellis has displayed unmatched consistency, hitting a home run every 4.88 at-bats and drawing a walk every 3.21 plate appearances. She is the first player since Jen Yee of Georgia Tech in 2010 to rank in the top two nationally in both home runs and walks per game.

In addition to her national recognition, Ellis earned the SEC Player of the Year title, was selected for the All-SEC First Team, and received All-Defensive Team honors. According to Arkansas coach Courtney Deifel, “Bri has set the standard for what it means to be a Razorback.”

Alongside Ellis, teammate Robyn Herron earned Second-Team All-America honors. Herron, who is 18-6 this season, boasts a 2.57 ERA and leads the team with 155 strikeouts. Freshman Ella McDowell and pitcher Payton Burnham were both named Freshman All-Americans.

The Razorbacks will continue their competitive season, hosting Ole Miss in the NCAA Super Regional at Bogle Park. The first game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, May 23.
