Brighton Set To Face Wolves In Premier League Mid Table Battle

An exciting mid-table battle between two entertaining teams takes the field at the Amex as Brighton host Wolves in Premier League action on Monday. Brighton sit eighth in the Premier League table on 31 points, but could be overtaken by today’s opponents should Wolves win, lurking back in 11th two points adrift. Both sides will consider themselves within reach of the European places, as sixth-placed West Ham are just three points ahead of Brighton, leaving plenty on the line in this match.

Each club has important players out on international duty, and will need help from their depth if they are to secure vital points heading out of the January dead period and into the second half of the season.

These two teams have had true rollercoaster seasons, and it’s tough to know which version of each side will come to play. While Brighton have a few things working their way, including the home field and a three-game winning streak against Wolves, they are also mistake prone, as evident in the latest 0-0 draw with West Ham where they faltered majorly in front of goal. For that reason, the minus odds on Brighton’s moneyline seem a bit too risky for the value presented, and instead, it would be reasonable to back Wolves to secure a road point. They’ve come up just short on the road on numerous occasions, dropping one-goal games at Sheffield United, Fulham, and Arsenal in recent months before finally breaking through with a 4-1 win at Brentford. They can get a result here.

While these two teams can really let it fly, there’s reason to believe this match will be a bit of a dud. Brighton has regressed somewhat in the finishing department, and will be missing both Karou Mitoma and Simon Adingra due to international duty. Wolves are without Hee-Chan Hwang as well, and will struggle to find opportunities without their goal-scoring star. Neither side has played much in the last month with the Premier League taking a break, and while Wolves put three by struggling Brentford in their FA Cup replay last week, it took them time to find their way in front. Evan Ferguson has faded in front of the Brighton attack, and these two are both due for a slow game.

With Hee-Chan Hwang out on Asian Cup duty, Pedro Neto picked the perfect time to find his way back to full fitness. The Portuguese winger has a stunning 10 assists in 13 appearances this season across all competitions, including a goal contribution in all but one of his last 11 games – the only without was a 10-minute substitute appearance. After missing two months with a hamstring injury, Neto has returned to aplomb, assisting a goal in both legs of the FA Cup double against Brentford. If Wolves are to find spaces against Brighton, they will need Neto to play a big role.
