Brisbane Lions Vs Carlton Aflw 2024

The Brisbane Lions continued their successful run in the 2024 AFLW season with a decisive 55-point win over Carlton at Ikon Park. The reigning premiers displayed dominance throughout the match, securing a 9.14 (68) to 1.7 (13) victory on Saturday evening.

Despite the absence of Orla O’Dwyer, Brisbane’s lineup was bolstered by Charlie Mullins, who delivered an outstanding performance. Mullins recorded a personal best of 23 disposals and added a goal to her tally, proving instrumental on the wing. Additionally, Lions’ captain Breanna Koenen provided solid defense with 16 disposals and six intercepts.

The Blues faced challenges from the formidable Lions’ forward Taylor Smith, alongside other key Brisbane players like Belle Dawes who contributed significantly with 15 disposals and seven tackles. Carlton’s attempts to counter the Brisbane offense were thwarted despite efforts by key defender Harriet Cordner and midfielder Keeley Sherar.

The Lions, however, did exhibit some inaccuracies in their attacking plays, with ongoing trends of inaccuracy that coach Craig Starcevich aims to address as the season progresses. Nevertheless, the team showcased their depth with goals from eight different players, further highlighting their strength across the squad.

Both teams are now preparing for next Saturday’s Pride Round. The Brisbane Lions will return to their home turf at Brighton Homes Arena to face Gold Coast in the AFLW QClash, while Carlton is set to confront Fremantle at Fremantle Oval.
