Russ Cook, also known as the Hardest Geezer, has achieved a remarkable feat by completing a grueling challenge to run the entire length of Africa. The 27-year-old from Worthing, West Sussex, embarked on this monumental journey starting from the most southern point of Africa at Cape Agulhas in South Africa and concluding at Ras Angela, Tunisia‘s northernmost point where he was welcomed by a crowd of supporters.

Cook’s journey spanned across 16 countries, covering an astounding distance of over 16,000 kilometers, which is equivalent to approximately 376 marathons. The endeavor, which began on 22 April 2023, has now come to a triumphant end after nearly a year of enduring physical and mental challenges along the way.

The Hardest Geezer had set out to achieve a historic milestone by becoming the first person to run the full length of the continent of Africa. His endeavor has not only captivated supporters and followers but has also raised more than £600,000 for two charities, namely The Running Charity and Sandblast.

Throughout his expedition, Cook encountered various obstacles, including being robbed at gunpoint in Angola and facing dangerous situations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In Mauritania, visa issues threatened to derail his mission, but with the power of social media and support from British MPs, he managed to secure the necessary visas to continue his journey.

His remarkable resilience and determination were further tested as he braved extreme weather conditions, physical ailments, and the relentless demands of running an ultramarathon every day. Despite setbacks, including illness and injuries, Cook pressed on, drawing strength from the unwavering support of his team and followers.

As he crossed the finish line in Tunisia, Cook reflected on the emotional significance of reaching this monumental milestone. The completion of his epic Africa run was not just a personal achievement but a testament to his unwavering spirit and commitment to making a positive impact through his fundraising efforts.
