British Teams Learn Europa League Last 16 Fate
In the UEFA Europa League last 16 draw, British teams discovered their opponents, with Brighton set to face Roma, Liverpool taking on Sparta Prague, West Ham meeting Freiburg, and Rangers clashing with Benfica. The matches are scheduled for March 7 and 14.
Liverpool, an experienced European side with three UEFA Europa League titles, topped their group and will face Sparta Prague, who progressed through a dramatic play-off victory over Galatasaray. Brighton, in their debut European campaign, will challenge Roma, now led by Daniele De Rossi, after the departure of Jose Mourinho.
West Ham will battle Bundesliga’s Freiburg, a team they defeated both home and away in the group stage. Meanwhile, Rangers, who excelled in the group stage, have a tough test against Portuguese powerhouse Benfica.
Bayer Leverkusen, the only team to complete the group phase with six wins out of six, will face Qarabag. AC Milan is drawn against Slavia Prague, while Villarreal will encounter Marseille. Sporting CP and Atalanta are also set for an intriguing tie, with the final taking place at Dublin Arena.
