Broncos Edge Closer to Deal with Defensive Tackle Jones

DENVER, Colo. — The Denver Broncos are nearing an agreement with defensive tackle Jones on a contract reportedly valued at around $13 million per year. The potential deal comes as Denver aims to retain key players before free agency, according to a source familiar with the situation.
Jones, 30, originally signed with the Broncos during the 2022 free agency period on a three-year deal worth $30 million. Over the past two seasons, he has greatly benefited from the team’s significant enhancements to the defensive line. This evolution began with the acquisition of notable players, which included the arrival of Franklin-Myers and Roach through trades and free agency.
During the 2023 season, Jones had a standout year, forcing three fumbles and recording five tackles for loss while playing primarily from the interior position. Last season, he contributed 42 tackles in a rotational capacity, logging 40% of the defense’s snaps, marking one of his most productive NFL seasons yet.
However, as the Broncos strengthened their roster, Jones’ playing time did see a reduction. Although he played a career-high 568 snaps in 2023, this number decreased to 465 as Franklin-Myers and Roach took on more responsibilities at defensive tackle.
Originally drafted in the sixth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Jones spent the first five years of his career with the Green Bay Packers and has made a significant mark in the league since. In a total of 109 games, he has logged 12 sacks, six forced fumbles, and a noteworthy 248 tackles.
The potential new deal for Jones is a clear indication of his value to the team, as the Broncos look to solidify their defensive line ahead of the upcoming season.
