Bronny James Assigned to Lakers’ G League Affiliate Ahead of Season Opener
Bronny James, the 20-year-old son of NBA legend LeBron James, has been assigned to the Los Angeles Lakers‘ G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers, as announced by the team on Thursday.
James is set to make his G League debut on Saturday in the South Bay Lakers’ season opener against the Salt Lake City Stars. Before his G League debut, he will be included in the Lakers’ NBA roster for their game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday.
In his brief stint with the Los Angeles Lakers, Bronny appeared in four games, scoring a total of four points over 13 minutes. He made history by playing alongside his father, LeBron James, in the season opener against Minnesota on October 22, becoming the first father-son duo to do so in an NBA game.
Bronny also scored his first NBA basket during a game in Cleveland on October 30, a city significant to him as it is where he once watched his father play for the Cavaliers. Despite these milestones, his playtime has been limited, and the Lakers have indicated that he will spend a significant portion of the season honing his skills with the G League squad.
After recovering from a cardiac arrest in the summer of 2023, Bronny had limited playtime during his single college basketball season at the University of Southern California before entering the draft. The Lakers selected him with the 55th overall pick in this year’s draft.
The South Bay Lakers, who play at the UCLA Health Training Center in El Segundo, California, have already seen high demand for tickets to Bronny’s G League debut, with the game against the Salt Lake City Stars already sold out. Tickets on the secondary market are going for no less than $200.
