Brooke Henderson Shines at Olympics Despite Tough Opening Round
Brooke Henderson, a Canadian golf star, competed in her first round at the Olympics on Wednesday at Le Golf National in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, France. Henderson, who has made a name for herself as the winningest Canadian pro golfer, was not just thinking about her score but rather her chance to compete for Olympic glory.
Standing on the 18th fairway, Henderson faced a challenging shot over water but managed to hit a solid shot, setting up a fantastic eagle from 48 feet out. Even though she ended the round with a two-over 74, she remained hopeful with three more rounds of golf ahead. Meanwhile, the standout of the day was France’s Celine Boutier, who fired an impressive 7-under par 65.
Another Canadian golfer, Alena Sharp, performed well, too, finishing her round at one-over par and tying for seventh place. Sharp enjoyed her experience at the Olympics, stating it was her best start at the Games, and she was thrilled with her under-par finish.
Henderson, competing in her third Olympic Games, expressed her passion for representing Canada and the unique challenges of the Olympic format compared to regular LPGA tournaments. She mentioned, “It’s definitely a mindset shift which is kind of difficult for a lot of us out here.”
The excitement surrounding Olympic golf seems to be growing, especially after witnessing crowds for the men’s event and the enthusiasm for the women’s tournament. Henderson was among the fans watching the men’s final, which concluded with World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler taking the gold.
As Henderson and Sharp continue their Olympic journey, they hope to show the world just how exciting and meaningful golf can be in this global sporting stage.
