Brooklyn Nets Set to Launch Preseason Against Los Angeles Clippers
The Brooklyn Nets will commence their 2024-2025 preseason with a matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers tonight, marking the team’s first game under rookie head coach Jordi Fernandez. This encounter presents an early test for the Nets as both teams have undergone significant roster changes during the offseason.
The Clippers will see their first action without nine-time All-Star Paul George, who was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in July. The team also parted ways with former MVP Russell Westbrook. However, they retained James Harden and acquired Kai Jones and Kevin Porter Jr., adding layers of intrigue to their lineup. This game takes place at the Frontwave Arena in Oceanside, California, following the Nets’ training camp in Southern California.
The Nets face a challenge, entering the game as 4.5-point underdogs, with the over/under set at 216.5 points. Coach Fernandez has emphasized the importance of an increased offensive pace in training, a factor that will be central as the Nets look to exploit the Clippers’ defense.
In particular, the performance of Nic Claxton will be closely observed. After securing a $100 million contract extension, he faces Ivica Zubac, a test he must excel in to fulfill his aspiration of becoming the Defensive Player of the Year.
The Nets have created interest with their strategy of fielding two point guards, Dennis Schroder and Ben Simmons, as confirmed by Coach Fernandez. This pairing, which is expected to offer dynamic offensive possibilities, particularly in transition, has yet to be tested extensively on the court.
Injury reports and final team rosters will be updated ahead of the game, which is scheduled for 10:30 PM ET and will be broadcast on the YES Network, NBA League Pass, and WFAN 660AM/101.9FM. Fans can also stream the event on fuboTV.
Next up, after facing the Clippers, the Brooklyn Nets will return to the Barclays Center to play against the Washington Wizards on October 14.
