Cleveland Browns Offensive Coordinator Candidates 2024

The Cleveland Browns have begun their search for a new offensive coordinator following a disappointing 3-14 season. The team has already interviewed four candidates, including internal and external options, as they look to revamp their offense under head coach Kevin Stefanski.

Among the candidates interviewed are Browns tight ends coach/pass game specialist Tommy Rees, Miami Dolphins quarterbacks coach Darrell Bevell, Seattle Seahawks quarterbacks coach Charles London, and Atlanta Falcons tight ends coach Kevin Koger. The team is expected to conduct additional interviews, particularly with candidates whose teams are still competing in the NFL playoffs.

Darrell Bevell, 55, brings extensive NFL experience, having worked with notable quarterbacks such as Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers, and Russell Wilson. His offenses have consistently ranked in the top 10 in rushing percentage, aligning with Stefanski’s run-heavy philosophy. Bevell also has prior connections to Stefanski and Browns wide receivers coach Chad O'Shea from their time together with the Minnesota Vikings.

Kevin Koger, 35, is a Toledo native with a relatively short NFL coaching career but has worked under influential offensive minds like Matt LaFleur and Sean Payton. Koger has experience developing tight ends, including Gerald Everett and Kyle Pitts, and his background in diverse offensive schemes could bring fresh ideas to Cleveland.

Charles London, 49, has never coordinated an offense but has a strong background in run-based systems. He has worked with quarterbacks like Matt Ryan and Geno Smith, the latter of whom could be a potential target for the Browns this offseason. London’s experience under coaches like Bill O'Brien and Arthur Smith adds to his versatility.

Tommy Rees, 32, is the youngest candidate and the only internal option. Despite limited NFL experience, Rees has a strong college coaching background, having served as offensive coordinator at Notre Dame and Alabama. His emphasis on the run game and multiple-tight end sets aligns with Stefanski’s preferences, and his use of motion could introduce new dynamics to the Browns’ offense.

The Browns are taking a deliberate approach to their search, ensuring they find the right fit to lead their offense in the 2024 season. The process is expected to continue in the coming weeks as more candidates become available.
