Cleveland Browns Wide Receiver Free Agency News

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland Browns have announced a one-year contract agreement with free agent wide receiver Miles Johnson. The deal follows Johnson’s recent visit with the team on Monday, April 29, 2025.

Johnson, 28, comes to the Browns after a tumultuous season where he played for three teams. He started the last season with the Carolina Panthers, where he led the team with 30 receptions and 357 yards. However, he was traded to the Baltimore Ravens in October for a fifth-round pick but struggled to make an impact, recording only one catch for six yards.

After being waived by Baltimore, Johnson signed with the Houston Texans but was released shortly after a disappointing postseason appearance. His journey included a one-game suspension, complicating his attempts to secure a stable position in the league. Despite these challenges, the Browns are interested in his potential to provide veteran experience.

The Browns have sought a reliable wide receiver this offseason, particularly after not selecting one in the 2025 NFL Draft. Currently, only Pro Bowler Amari Cooper and recently signed return specialist John Doe are the team’s notable wideouts. The situation remains tenuous for other receivers, including Elijah Moore, who received an unrestricted free agent tender.

“Elijah Moore is here. We talked with him a few times leading up to the draft,” said Browns General Manager Brandon Beane. “We’re interested to see how things develop after the draft and whether he’s still keen on coming back.”

The unrestricted free agent tender worth $3.428 million allows Moore to negotiate with any team but will grant the Browns compensation should he sign elsewhere before July 22, 2025.

As the offseason progresses, Johnson aims to contribute significantly to the Browns’ offense, hoping to rejuvenate his career at a pivotal moment.
