TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have promoted Josh Grizzard to offensive coordinator, filling the vacancy left by Liam Coen, who departed to become the Jacksonville Jaguars‘ head coach. The move marks the third consecutive year the Buccaneers have had to find a new offensive coordinator.

Grizzard, 34, joined the Buccaneers in 2024 as their pass-game coordinator and quickly earned respect within the organization. He replaces Coen, who left last week after one season with Tampa Bay. Grizzard’s promotion comes after the team conducted its first in-person interview with him earlier this week.

“Josh has been instrumental in our offensive success this past season,” said Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles. “His understanding of the game and ability to connect with players made him the clear choice for this role.”

Grizzard, a Yale graduate, began his coaching career as a student assistant at his alma mater before moving to Duke University as a graduate assistant. He later spent seven seasons with the Miami Dolphins, where he served as a quality control coach and wide receivers coach. During his tenure in Miami, Grizzard worked closely with standout receiver Jaylen Waddle, who set an NFL rookie record with 104 receptions in 2021.

In his first season with the Buccaneers, Grizzard helped guide an offense that ranked third in total yards (399.5 per game) and fourth in scoring (29.5 points per game). Quarterback Baker Mayfield had a career year under Grizzard’s guidance, throwing for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns, though he also tied for the league lead with 16 interceptions.

The Buccaneers finished the 2024 season with a 10-7 record, securing their fourth consecutive NFC South title. Grizzard’s promotion signals continuity for an offense that has been among the league’s most productive in recent years.

“I’m excited for this opportunity and grateful to Coach Bowles and the organization for their trust,” Grizzard said. “We have a talented group of players, and I look forward to building on the success we had last season.”

Grizzard’s appointment comes as the Buccaneers aim to maintain their offensive momentum heading into the 2025 season. With key players like Mayfield and star receiver Mike Evans returning, the team hopes to make another deep playoff run under Grizzard’s leadership.
