Bucks Acquire Kevin Porter Jr. in Last-Minute Trade with Clippers
MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The Milwaukee Bucks bolstered their backcourt depth Thursday, acquiring guard Kevin Porter Jr. from the Los Angeles Clippers in a last-minute trade just ahead of the NBA trade deadline. The deal sends MarJon Beauchamp to the Clippers in exchange for Porter, who has been seeking stability after a tumultuous career.
Porter, 24, averaged 9.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.2 assists in 45 games for the Clippers this season. The trade marks a fresh start for the young guard, who spent time playing overseas after off-court issues derailed his early NBA career. Beauchamp, 23, averaged 2.0 points and 1.2 rebounds in 26 appearances for the Bucks this season.
“We believe Kevin has the talent to contribute immediately,” said a Bucks spokesperson. “This move strengthens our roster as we push for a deep playoff run.”
The trade comes as the Bucks aim to solidify their position in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Porter’s scoring ability and playmaking could provide a spark off the bench, while Beauchamp’s departure opens up opportunities for younger players in Milwaukee’s rotation.
Porter, a first-round pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, has shown flashes of brilliance during his career, including a 50-point game with the Houston Rockets in 2021. However, his time in the league has been marred by controversy, including legal issues and clashes with team management.
The Clippers, meanwhile, add a young wing in Beauchamp, who was selected 24th overall in the 2022 NBA Draft. While his production has been limited, the Clippers see potential in his defensive versatility and athleticism.
Both teams are expected to finalize the trade paperwork by the league’s deadline, with Porter and Beauchamp likely joining their new squads for upcoming games.
