Bucks Eye Zach LaVine Trade Amid Salary Cap Challenges

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The Milwaukee Bucks are actively pursuing Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine as they seek to bolster their perimeter scoring, according to league sources. The Bucks, currently navigating salary cap constraints, are exploring trade options to acquire the two-time All-Star.
The Bulls have made LaVine available in trade discussions, despite reports that the 29-year-old guard prefers to remain in Chicago for the remainder of the season. LaVine, who is averaging 24.5 points per game this season, could provide the Bucks with the offensive firepower they need to complement Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Milwaukee is also reportedly considering a move for Phoenix Suns guard Bradley Beal. However, any deal involving Beal would likely require a multi-team trade, as the Bucks must navigate the NBA’s second apron rules to aggregate salaries. A potential trade could involve sending Khris Middleton, Bobby Portis, and Pat Connaughton to Chicago to match LaVine’s $40 million salary.
“The Bucks are in win-now mode, and adding a player like LaVine could be a game-changer,” said an NBA insider familiar with the discussions. “But the financial logistics are complicated, and they may need to involve a third team to make it work.”
Meanwhile, the Toronto Raptors are taking a more measured approach to their roster construction. The team is focused on building around young star Scottie Barnes and is reportedly seeking a second star to pair with him. While the Raptors have been linked to Beal, the veteran guard has reportedly expressed no interest in joining Chicago, further complicating potential trade scenarios.
The Bucks’ pursuit of LaVine underscores their urgency to maximize Antetokounmpo’s prime years. With the trade deadline looming, Milwaukee’s front office faces a tight window to finalize a deal that could reshape the Eastern Conference playoff race.
