MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota — The Milwaukee Bucks are looking to turn their season around as they face the Minnesota Timberwolves at Target Center tonight before heading into the All-Star break. Both teams are fighting for momentum, with the Bucks holding a 3-7 record over the past three weeks.
Milwaukee entered the game hoping to capitalize on a strong start, leading by as many as 16 points in the first half. The Bucks closed the first half with a 51-50 lead, thanks partly to a late three-point shot from AJ Green that shifted the momentum. The Timberwolves had struggled, shooting only 21.7 percent from beyond the arc.
Green’s pivotal basket, along with his timely defensive play against Anthony Edwards, helped the Bucks maintain a tight contest. Despite leading at halftime, Milwaukee faced challenges with turnovers and waning shooting accuracy, missing eight consecutive three-pointers at one point.
“We need to clean things up as we head into the break,” Bucks coach Doc Rivers said. “Every possession counts, especially against a team like Minnesota.”
The Timberwolves, currently holding a 30-24 record, recently lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers, but have won three of their last four games. Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards, a rising star, led his team with 16 points on 5-for-16 shooting against Milwaukee.
Giannis Antetokounmpo was sidelined once again due to a left calf strain, marking his fourth consecutive missed game. Rivers stated that he is unlikely to return before the All-Star break. Antetokounmpo’s absence has been noticeably impactful on the Bucks’ performance.
“It’s tough not having our leader on the court,” said Bucks forward Kyle Kuzma. “But we have to step up and fill that gap.”
Damian Lillard, who was initially listed as probable, was declared out for the game due to soreness in his right hamstring, having felt discomfort during the previous games against Philadelphia and Golden State. Lillard will participate in the upcoming All-Star weekend but emphasized that his health is a priority.
“I didn’t realize anyone was pushing themselves in the All-Star game,” Rivers joked before tip-off. “He’ll be fine for the festivities, but it’s important he focuses on recovery.”
The matchup marks an important game for both teams as they navigate the midseason. The Bucks have had a rough patch with only two wins in their last seven games, while the Timberwolves aim to remain competitive in the Western Conference.
The game will tip off at 7 p.m. CST, and fans can watch the action live on FanDuel Sports Network Wisconsin and WMLW The M.
