Paige Bueckers Wnba Homecoming

UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Paige Bueckers, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, is set for a highly anticipated homecoming as she leads the Dallas Wings against the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday night. After a stellar college career at UConn, where she never lost at Mohegan Sun Arena, Bueckers is looking for her first victory in the professional league.

Both teams enter the matchup with 0-4 records, eager to break their losing streaks. The Wings, under new general manager Curt Miller and first-time head coach Chris Koclanes, are adjusting to a roster that includes four rookies and just three returning players from last season.

“It will be weird not stepping on this court with a UConn uniform,” Bueckers said after Monday’s practice, where she expressed excitement about returning to a place filled with great memories. “But it will be something I’ll enjoy with a new team and new organization.”

In her first four WNBA games, Bueckers is averaging 13 points, 6.3 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.8 steals. However, she has faced more losses in this brief span than she did during her entire senior year at UConn. “What’s delayed is not denied,” she said, emphasizing the team’s focus on continuous improvement and chemistry.

The Sun are also seeking their first win of the season after faltering in their last two games against the Minnesota Lynx and Atlanta Dream. Under coach Rachid Meziane, they are experiencing their worst start since 2020.

Bueckers noted the significance of the upcoming game, particularly as she competes against former teammate Olivia Nelson-Ododa, who is also adjusting to a starting role for the Sun. “I know she’s going to try to block one of my shots,” Bueckers joked, recalling their friendly rivalry during college.

As both teams prepare for tonight’s clash, expectations remain high for Bueckers, who continues to demonstrate her leadership skills on and off the court. She aims to inspire her new team and secure a victory in a familiar environment.

The game is set for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on NBC Sports Boston.
