Buffalo Bills Rookie Maxwell Hairston Named in Sexual Assault Civil Lawsuit

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Buffalo Bills rookie cornerback Maxwell Hairston is facing a civil lawsuit related to an alleged sexual assault that occurred in 2021. The lawsuit was filed by Bryant Law Center and Meyers & Flowers on Tuesday.
The complaint claims that Hairston engaged in non-consensual sexual contact with a woman in her dorm room while both were students at the University of Kentucky. The woman reported the incident to authorities at the time and subsequently transferred to another school.
Despite the allegation, Hairston was not criminally charged. Buffalo Bills General Manager Brandon Beane addressed the situation after selecting Hairston with the 30th overall pick in April. He emphasized the team’s thorough investigation into the allegations, stating, “I think all teams were aware of the Title IX thing. That was fully investigated by the school.”
Beane further explained that Hairston had volunteered to take a polygraph test as part of the inquiry, which showed no evidence supporting the claims against him. “You can’t take someone’s account and think that’s the truth. But yes, we fully investigated that,” Beane added.
The Bills organization, while refraining from commenting directly on the lawsuit, maintained their support for Hairston. Beane described him as “a heck of a young man” based on feedback from teammates and staff at Kentucky.
As the civil lawsuit moves forward, the ultimate outcome could lead to a trial in open court. The developments might attract further scrutiny from the Bills organization or the NFL.
