Bulls Guard Josh Giddey Nears Return Amid Injury Concerns

CHICAGO — Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey is close to making a return from a right ankle sprain that has sidelined him for the past two games. Giddey’s injury, sustained in a game against the Indiana Pacers on March 10, has raised concerns as the Bulls ride a surprising hot streak, winning four of their last five games.
Bulls head coach Billy Donovan provided an update on Giddey’s condition on Monday, stating that the 22-year-old player is progressing well and is likely to return during the upcoming road trip. ‘He’s really made some nice progress, and we hope to get him back on the court either Wednesday against the Phoenix Suns or Thursday against the Sacramento Kings,’ Donovan said.
Despite being only 28-39 and currently sitting in tenth place in the Eastern Conference, Giddey has been instrumental for the Bulls this season. Post-All-Star break, he has averaged 23.1 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 8.4 assists, while shooting over 52% from the field and nearly 87% from the free-throw line.
‘Josh has really stepped up for us, especially when we’ve had injuries to other guards,’ Donovan added. ‘We need him back; he’s been a key player in keeping this team competitive.’
Giddey’s performance before his injury included a standout game where he scored a season-high 29 points with 61% shooting. His absence has been felt as the Bulls prepare for their six-game road trip, which started Monday against the Utah Jazz.
The Bulls had also been dealing with injuries to other guards, making Giddey’s eventual return essential for maintaining their current momentum. ‘We are optimistic about having him back by the end of the trip,’ Donovan mentioned.
Reports indicate that Giddey has been able to walk without a limp, suggesting a positive trajectory toward recovery. Sources within the team have expressed hope that he could play as soon as Wednesday’s contest.
As the Bulls navigate through a challenging schedule, having Giddey back will be crucial as they aim to secure a higher seed in the upcoming Play-In Tournament.
