Burnley Vs Norwich Championship Match Highlights

BURNLEY, England — Burnley returned to the top of the Championship table after securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Norwich City at Turf Moor on April 11, 2025. The win allowed Burnley to extend their unbeaten league run to 29 matches.

The Clarets opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Hannibal Mejbri capitalized on a precise pass from Josh Cullen, finishing coolly past Norwich goalkeeper Angus Gunn for his first goal of the season. Just ten minutes later, Jaidon Anthony doubled Burnley’s lead with a deflected shot that caught Norwich’s defense off guard.

Norwich made a strong push in the second half, with substitute Jack Stacey pulling a goal back in the 76th minute after reacting quickly to a corner. The late-stage tension did not result in an equalizer, allowing Burnley to hold on for all three points and move three points clear of Leeds United, who are in second place.

Burnley manager Scott Parker expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, particularly in the first half. “We set a tone about us today which I was immensely proud of. The boys showed hard work and commitment,” Parker said. “We will be a bit disappointed with the way we conceded tonight, but I’m pleased we walked out with the objective today.”

Norwich manager Johannes Hoff Thorup acknowledged his team’s struggles but emphasized their improved second-half performance. “We hoped we would look better in the second half,” Thorup stated. “We gave away a free-kick in our own half, which led to the second goal. Overall, I am not satisfied with our defensive play.”

The match not only marked Burnley’s return to the summit of the Championship, but it was also significant as they maintained their impressive home record, remaining unbeaten at Turf Moor this season. Subsequently, Burnley has only conceded 13 goals in the league, a feat that keeps them on track to challenge the record for fewest goals conceded in a single season.

Looking ahead, Burnley will face another test when they travel to Watford on Good Friday, April 18, before a potential promotion decider against Sheffield United three days later. “It’s about staying focused for the remaining matches,” Parker concluded. “We can’t get involved in the emotions of this time of year.”

Norwich’s defeat further complicates their hopes for a playoff spot, leaving them nine points off the top six with just four matches remaining in the season.
