Butler Forward Augusto Cassia Leaves Program Amid Injury Setbacks

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Butler University men’s basketball sophomore forward Augusto Cassia has left the program, effective immediately, due to ongoing injury issues. Cassia, a 6-foot-8, 220-pound native of Brazil, sustained an injury on Dec. 10 during a game against North Dakota State. Initially, the injury was not believed to be season-ending, but it has now prompted Cassia to step away from the team. Despite his departure from the program, Cassia will remain enrolled at Butler and plans to complete the spring semester.
Cassia appeared in 15 games for Butler over two seasons, starting eight. This season, he averaged 5.1 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. Known for his versatility, Cassia developed into a key defender capable of guarding all five positions. However, injuries have plagued his collegiate career, limiting his contributions on the court.
Following Cassia’s departure, Butler now has two open scholarships heading into next season. The team had already secured commitments from freshmen Azavier ‘Stink’ Robinson, Jack McCaffery, Jackson Keith, and Efeosa Oliogu, who has not yet signed his letter of intent.
