BYU’s Martin and Ropati Drive Key Touchdown Against Oklahoma State
PROVO, Utah — BYU running backs LJ Martin and Hinckley Ropati played pivotal roles in a game-tying touchdown drive during an intense matchup against Oklahoma State. Martin capped off the drive, which spanned 67 yards, with an eight-yard sprint around the right edge, marking his second touchdown of the night.
The Cougars exploited their run game effectively on all seven plays of the scoring drive. Martin, in particular, showcased a strong performance, amassing nearly seven yards per carry throughout the drive. This performance was a significant milestone for Martin, who crossed the 100-yard rushing barrier for the first time in his BYU career, ending the night with a total of 104 yards.
Earlier in the game, BYU’s Tanner Wall executed a crucial interception and return, setting the stage at the goal line. This defensive play allowed Martin to score his third touchdown since his return from a five-week injury hiatus. “It was a great moment for us,” remarked Wall, reflecting on the sequence that shifted momentum in BYU’s favor.
In related moments during the Friday night game, former BYU quarterback Zach Wilson was sighted on the sidelines, giving his support as the No. 13 BYU Cougars sought their seventh win of the season.
Despite an impressive ground performance totalling 198 rushing yards, BYU trailed slightly in comparison to Oklahoma State’s 219 rushing yards. The match unfolded with BYU leading 14-7 midway through the first half, relying heavily on their robust run game to maintain pressure.
