DETROIT, Michigan — Cade Cunningham is enjoying a remarkable turnaround with the Detroit Pistons this season, as the team boasts a record of 13-2 after suffering through a 28-game losing streak just two years ago.

Following a forgettable 2023-24 season, during which the Pistons only won 14 games, Cunningham’s dedication has led to a resurgence. “My whole goal from day one was to come in here and turn the Pistons organization around,” he said.

This season, the 6-foot-6 point guard is not only leading the team in scoring, averaging 27.3 points per game, but also proving to be a critical playmaker. In a recent game, Cunningham notched an impressive triple-double with 46 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists, marking him as the first modern-era player to achieve a 40-10-10-5 performance.

Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff praised Cunningham for his unwavering commitment to the team. “He could’ve been frustrated and blamed everyone else, but never once did you hear him do that,” Bickerstaff remarked.

Cunningham’s leadership is evident on and off the court. His teammates frequently describe him as unselfish, with his ability to make the right play in crucial moments bolstering team morale. Isaiah Stewart, a fellow Pistons player, reflected on Cunningham’s capability to rally the team, stating, “He’s about to take us home. That’s what he does.”

During the 2024-25 season, Cunningham averaged 26.1 points and helped the Pistons reach the playoffs for the first time since 2008. The team has built on that success this season, winning 11 consecutive games and standing proud atop the Eastern Conference.

The Pistons are looking to set a franchise record for consecutive wins as they prepare to face the Boston Celtics next. Cunningham is aware of the weight of their success, saying, “We don’t forget those days. We’re still going into every game knowing where we came from and where we’re going.”
