Caitlin Clark Out Two Weeks with Quad Injury, Fever Struggle

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark will be sidelined for at least two weeks due to a left quadriceps strain, the team announced on Monday. This injury will cause Clark to miss a total of four games, starting with the Fever’s matchup against the Washington Mystics on May 28.
Clark, the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year, previously missed Indiana’s preseason opener because of a similar left quad injury. Although she had returned to play in the Fever’s regular-season opener against the Chicago Sky, her latest injury has raised concerns for the team. Clark had a standout performance in her last game, scoring 18 points and providing 10 assists in a narrow loss to the New York Liberty.
Fever coach Stephanie White expressed uncertainty about when Clark sustained her injury. She stated, “I know [after the Liberty game] we got a message that something was going on with her leg and they were getting an MRI.” White confirmed that this quad strain is a new injury and not a recurrence of the previous issue.
As of now, the Fever stand at a 2-2 record this season. Clark’s absence is especially challenging, as the team faced injuries to other key players during their recent game against the Connecticut Sun. Clark’s teammates, including veteran players, will have to adjust their roles as the Fever navigate a challenging stretch without their star player.
“It’s hard when you keep losing people and you’ve got to keep trying to piece it together,” said Fever forward Kelsey Mitchell, who has stepped up in recent games.
If Clark’s recovery progresses as anticipated, she could return for a game against the Atlanta Dream on June 10. However, with four crucial games in the interim, the Fever will need to find success without her on the court.
