Caitlin Clark Basketball Injury Update

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Caitlin Clark, star guard for the Indiana Fever, addressed reporters on Thursday about her recovery from a left quad strain that has sidelined her since May 24.

Clark shared that she will be re-evaluated this weekend, with the possibility of returning to the court as early as June 10 against the Atlanta Dream. However, she made clear that there are no guarantees. “I’ll miss this weekend’s game, but after that it’s day-by-day to see how I feel,” Clark said. “I’m not gonna rush coming back; it’s just not worth it.”

The injury occurred during a close game against the Dallas Wings, where Clark had a challenging performance, turning the ball over ten times and shooting only 2 of 11 from three-point range. Reflecting on the game, Clark said, “Adrenaline covers up a lot of stuff… after the game, I had some pain, then we got an MRI.”

On Memorial Day, the Fever announced that Clark would be out for at least two weeks. She has missed three games already and will sit out again when Indiana plays the Chicago Sky on Saturday.

During her absence, the Fever struggled. Without Clark, they faced defeats but managed to break a three-game losing streak with a win over the Washington Mystics. “We’ll see what the timeline looks like after this weekend,” Clark noted.

Clark has been focusing on supporting her teammates off the court. “I’m trying to be that connector between my coaches and my teammates,” she explained. “You see things from a different perspective that maybe the coaching staff didn’t see.”

Before her injury, Clark had an impressive start to her season, averaging 19 points, six rebounds, and leading the league with 9.3 assists per game. Fever coach Stephanie White expressed hope that Clark could learn from this time off. “It’s taught me a lot,” Clark said about watching from the bench, adding that she believes observing the game can offer valuable insights.

The Fever will not rush Clark’s return, as they navigate expectations for success this season.
