Cal Linebacker Teddye Buchanan Selected by Ravens in NFL Draft

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – The Baltimore Ravens selected California linebacker Teddye Buchanan in the fourth round of the NFL Draft on April 25, 2025. Buchanan had an impressive single season with the Golden Bears, totaling 114 tackles, five sacks, and two forced fumbles after transferring from UC Davis.
Buchanan, who stands 6 feet 2 inches and weighs 233 pounds, made a significant impact during his time at Cal. His performance included 12 tackles for loss, making him a standout defender in college football. NFL scouts highlighted his playmaking ability and versatility, which contributed to his rise in draft rankings.
In an interview after California’s pro day, Buchanan expressed his passion for football, stating, “It’d be really cool just to get the chance to play there,” referring to his dreams of joining the Ravens.
The Ravens were impressed by Buchanan’s athleticism displayed during the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. “I showed I’m a dynamic athlete that can do a lot of things on the field,” said Buchanan. His strong performance during drills likely improved his chances of being drafted.
Buchanan’s selection marks a potential turning point for the Cal football program, which hasn’t had an inside linebacker drafted since Evan Weaver in 2020. He aims to contribute significantly to the Ravens, filling a vacancy left by Dre Greenlaw’s departure.
As Buchanan embarks on his NFL career, he hopes to showcase his skills alongside All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner, whom he admires. Buchanan said he feels a connection to Warner, noting their similar body types and play styles.
