Cal Lutheran Women's Basketball Team Celebration

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran women’s basketball team secured their spot in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament Championship for the second consecutive year after defeating Chapman University 83-69 in the semifinals on Thursday evening.

With a balanced performance, the Regals (20-7) showcased their offensive prowess, highlighted by standout performances from newly named First Team All-SCIAC players Janna Holley and Alline Ballard, who each scored 20 points. The Regals shot an impressive 50% from the field, while their defense effectively limited the Panthers (12-14) to just 39.7% shooting.

The game started closely, with Cal Lutheran holding a narrow 20-18 lead at the end of the first quarter. However, the momentum shifted in the second quarter as the Regals went on a decisive 10-2 run, establishing a solid advantage.

“We came out strong and played as a team,” said Holley. “Our defense set the tone, and we executed well on offense.” The Regals continued to outpace Chapman, maintaining control throughout the match.

Cal Lutheran now looks ahead to the championship game, where they will aim to defend their title and secure a second consecutive SCIAC Tournament win. The Regals’ victory is a testament to their resilience and teamwork as they prepare for the upcoming challenge.

“This means everything to us,” Ballard said. “We’ve worked hard all season, and we’re excited to compete for the championship.” The final matchup is set to take place next week, and the team is eager to build on their successful semifinal performance.
