Baltimore, Maryland – Free agent defensive lineman Calais Campbell is weighing his future in the NFL, including a potential return to the Baltimore Ravens, as the 2025 draft approaches. The six-time Pro Bowler, who will turn 39 in September, has garnered significant interest, with discussions surrounding his next move heating up.

After a successful season with the Miami Dolphins in 2024, where he started all 17 games and contributed 52 tackles, 5 sacks, and 12 quarterback hits, Campbell is contemplating options involving the Ravens, Dolphins, or retirement. “Calais, specifically, is in a unique situation where he’s assessing multiple options,” said Dolphins Coach Mike McDaniel, emphasizing Campbell’s importance to their defensive lineup last season.

The Ravens had previously attempted to acquire Campbell during the last trade deadline, but the deal was halted by McDaniel. Recent reports indicate that Baltimore remains a contender for his services as he navigates free agency.

“He performed at a high level last year and has a lot to offer,” McDaniel noted. Campbell’s impressive track record includes leading all active players with 242 career games started, affirming his durability despite his age.

Over his 17-year career, Campbell has shown remarkable resilience, with no fewer than 12 games played in any given season. His production also continued to shine; Pro Football Focus ranked him as the seventh-highest graded interior defender last season.

As the Ravens face a vacancy on their defensive line following the retirement of nose tackle Michael Pierce and with defensive end Brent Urban still a free agent, Head Coach John Harbaugh emphasized the need for depth in this area. “We have to make sure we have a good solid defensive line,” Harbaugh said during NFL owners meetings. He mentioned that the upcoming draft holds depth in defensive talent, boosting the prospects of adding experienced players.

Additionally, Campbell’s past with the Ravens, where he played from 2020 to 2022, adds to the narrative surrounding his potential return. The team is strategically looking to enhance its defense, making Campbell’s arrival not just plausible, but likely.

The intersection of Campbell’s career stage and the Ravens’ needs may pave the way for a timely reunion, especially with the championship window wide open. Campbell has expressed a desire to continue competing at a high level, showcasing his excitement over another season.

“There’s a lot in play in that… you’re excited to play another year,” McDaniel added, highlighting the enthusiasm Campbell has for the game. As the Ravens look to solidify their defensive strategy, landing Campbell could provide the experience and leadership needed to bolster their playoff ambitions.
