Caleb Williams, the rookie quarterback for the Chicago Bears, is diving into his first training camp with a mix of excitement and a few bumps along the way. After eight days of practice, he feels he’s on the right track, stating, “I’m exactly where I need to be and where they want me to be.”

Williams, who was the first overall pick in the 2024 draft, is eager to learn every day. He mentions that he wakes up excited, always gathering new knowledge as he prepares for the upcoming season and practices. He is particularly interested in getting game time during the preseason opener against the Houston Texans at the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio.

Despite the struggles that come with being a young player, such as issues with cadence and the play clock, Williams has also shown flashes of brilliance on the field. During one practice, he impressed his teammates by making tough throws into tight spots, which linebacker Jack Sanborn acknowledged with a high-five.

Offensive coordinator Shane Waldron is optimistic about Williams’ mindset, noting that the young quarterback’s focus on improving daily could pave the way for great success. Williams remains grounded, understanding that mistakes are a part of the learning process.

While there have been tricky days, such as getting intercepted during drills, Williams bounced back quickly and continues to show resilience. He remarked on the importance of being tough on himself regarding his errors while ensuring that he learns from them.

Fans of the Bears are keen to see how well Williams performs in actual game situations, especially after being praised for his ability to extend plays and make big throws. He recalled a time when he connected with Tyler Scott on a deep pass while scrambling outside the pocket.

As the preseason approaches, it remains uncertain how much Williams will play, with the decision resting in the hands of head coach Matt Eberflus. However, Williams expressed his eagerness to get on the field, knowing that every rep counts for a rookie like him. “I would love to get out there and play,” he said enthusiastically.
