The Calgary Canucks faced a tough start at the 2024 Centennial Cup as they fell short in their opening game against the Collingwood Blues. The game witnessed a dramatic finish with Dylan Hudon and Spencer Young scoring crucial goals in the last few minutes.

Collingwood’s top-ranked team showcased their resilience, coming from behind to secure a 5-4 victory over the unranked Calgary Canucks. Head Coach Brad Moran expressed pride in his team’s effort despite the disappointing result.

Early goals by Collingwood’s Marcus Lougheed and Mark McIntosh gave them a 2-0 lead, but the Canucks fought back with Julien Gervais cutting the deficit before Cody Pisarczyk leveled the score on a power play.

In the second period, Gervais struck again on the power play, only to see Eke respond for the Blues, setting up a tense final frame. Gervais completed a hat trick to edge Calgary ahead, but Collingwood’s late surge with goals from Young and Hudon turned the tables in their favor.

The Calgary Canucks now aim to bounce back in their upcoming clash against Collège Français de Longueuil from the Quebec Junior Hockey League on Saturday as they continue their quest at the Centennial Cup.
