Calgary Flames' Oliver Kylington Returns To Nhl After 20 Month Absence

Calgary Flames defenseman, Oliver Kylington, is set to make his long-awaited return to the NHL after a 20-month absence. Kylington, who took a leave of absence at the start of the previous season to focus on his mental health, will suit up for the Flames when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday.

The 26-year-old Swedish blue-liner last played an NHL game on May 26, 2022. After a conditioning stint with the AHL’s Wranglers, Kylington was activated from long-term injured reserve earlier today. He is expected to skate alongside Jordan Oesterle on the Flames’ third defensive pairing.

Teammates and fans alike are excited about Kylington’s return. Flames forward Elias Lindholm expressed his excitement, stating that it has been a while since he saw Kylington in game action. The entire team is looking forward to having him back on the ice, and they are proud of his commitment to his mental health.

Kylington’s comeback has been closely followed by former Flames captain Mark Giordano, who expressed his happiness upon hearing about Kylington’s return to playing. Another former Flame, Johnny Gaudreau, also expressed his joy for Kylington, reminiscing about their time together on the team.

For fans, this will be a special moment as they welcome back Kylington to the Calgary Flames lineup. The team’s head coach, Ryan Huska, praised Kylington for his dedication and hard work throughout his journey. He also commended the team’s Swedish players, including Mikael Backlund, Lindholm, Markstrom, and Andersson, for supporting Kylington during his absence.

The Flames made some roster moves prior to the game, saying goodbye to Adam Ruzicka, who was claimed by the Arizona Coyotes, and Nick DeSimone, who joined the New Jersey Devils. In addition, Walker Duehr was recalled from the AHL’s Wranglers to fill the empty roster spot.
