Calgary’s Fourth Street Lilac Festival 2024: Biggest Yet, Expands to 16 Blocks
Calgary‘s vibrant Fourth Street Lilac Festival returns for its 33rd year, marking the official start of summer festivities in the city. This year, the festival, traditionally held in Mission, is set to be the largest yet, stretching into Central Memorial Park and expanding to an impressive 16 blocks.
Event producer Jennifer Rempel expressed the excitement surrounding the festival’s growth, highlighting an array of new performers and vendors that promise a day filled with entertainment and discoveries. The expansion aims to offer attendees a diverse lineup of activities and attractions.
The festival’s extensive reach necessitates alternative transportation options, with organizers recommending patrons utilize public transit, biking, or walking to access the event. Road closures will be in effect along key areas including Fourth Street S.W. from 12th Avenue to Elbow Drive, and 17th Avenue from Second Street to Fifth Street S.W.
Featuring six stages hosting over 70 performances, the festival provides a platform for local artists to showcase their talents and connect with a broader audience. Attendees can expect a dynamic mix of music, dance, and other performances throughout the day.
Beyond the entertainment, the festival will also spotlight local businesses, offering a diverse range of products from handmade jewelry to artisanal hot sauces. The event aims to support and promote Calgary’s entrepreneurial community while providing attendees with shopping opportunities and unique finds.
