PACIFIC GROVE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–February 12, 2025–California American Water has announced the successful completion of a $560,000 water storage tank rehabilitation project in Monterey, aimed at maintaining reliable water service for the community. The Aguajito Tank, with a capacity of 80,000 gallons, underwent significant upgrades to enhance performance and durability.
The rehabilitation included extensive interior and exterior coating applications to prevent corrosion and leaks, critical for preserving the tank’s integrity over time. New ladders and handrails were installed to ensure safer maintenance access for staff. Additionally, modifications to the tank’s piping were made to comply with current safety standards and incorporate seismic improvements, strengthening the tank’s resilience against potential earthquakes.
“We took a comprehensive approach to this improvement project, addressing multiple needs while the tank was offline for rehabilitation,” said Jenna Engelken, project manager at California American Water. “This efficient strategy, combined with extensive advance planning, allows us to minimize disruption to our customers and the communities we serve while making necessary improvements to our infrastructure.”
Further maintenance efforts included repairs to anchor bolts, foundation, manholes, and roof vents, followed by thorough cleaning and disinfection of the tank. Such measures are pivotal in ensuring the continued delivery of safe and clean drinking water.
California American Water’s proactive maintenance schedule is designed to combat challenges posed by the region’s harsh summer heat and salty ocean winds, which can accelerate corrosion. The company emphasizes a commitment to maintaining service reliability and quality for its customers.
“This kind of investment reflects our commitment to ensuring long-term service reliability,” Engelken added. “Infrastructure improvements like this not only enhance performance but also extend the life of essential facilities.”
California American Water serves approximately 700,000 individuals across its service areas, continuously focusing on ensuring safe, clean, and reliable water service through strategic infrastructure enhancements.
