Cam Whitmore Houston Rockets Game Action

HOUSTON, Texas — Cam Whitmore, the Houston Rockets‘ second-year forward, has re-emerged as a critical contributor after a slow start to the season, playing a pivotal role in the team’s 120-118 comeback victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday night.

Whitmore, who spent much of the early season bouncing between the Rockets and their G League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, has found his rhythm since returning to the NBA roster on Dec. 19. Against the Grizzlies, he scored 16 points off the bench, including a game-high plus-16 rating, helping the Rockets overcome a late deficit.

“Cam gave us the spark we needed,” said Rockets head coach Ime Udoka. “His energy and scoring ability off the bench are exactly what this team has been missing.”

Whitmore’s resurgence comes after a challenging start to the season. He struggled with his shooting early, starting 1-21 from 3-point range and playing just one game between Nov. 4 and Dec. 14. The Rockets sent him to the G League, where he dominated, averaging 22.3 points in 11 games with the Vipers.

Since rejoining the Rockets, Whitmore has been a reliable contributor, averaging 12.4 points per game while shooting 42.1% from beyond the arc. His 3-point shooting percentage ranks second on the team, trailing only Jae’Sean Tate.

Whitmore’s performance against the Grizzlies highlighted his potential as a dynamic scorer. “I just tried to stay ready and take advantage of my opportunities,” Whitmore said after the game. “I know I can help this team win, and I’m glad I could contribute tonight.”

The Rockets, currently in the top two of the Western Conference, have struggled to find consistent scoring outside of their starting lineup. Whitmore’s ability to provide a scoring punch off the bench could be a game-changer as the team pushes for a playoff spot.

With Whitmore finding his form, the Rockets are optimistic about their chances in a competitive Western Conference. “Cam’s growth is huge for us,” said teammate Fred VanVleet. “When he’s playing like this, it takes our team to another level.”
